Check the current Life in the UK Test format, including 24 multiple-choice questions, 45 minutes and how results are issued.

This page covers information that can change. Confirm current requirements using the official link before making a booking or application.

Current published format

GOV.UK states that the Life in the UK Test is computer based and gives you 45 minutes to answer 24 questions. The questions are multiple choice and are based on the official Guide for New Residents.

The current pass mark is 75%, which means at least 18 correct answers out of 24. See our separate pass mark explanation for the arithmetic and practice examples.

What happens at the test centre

You must take the correct original identification associated with your booking. The test centre checks your identity and takes a photograph. The official guidance warns that you cannot take the test and will not receive a refund if you do not bring the correct identification or refuse the photograph.

Identification rules can change. Read the current what to bring guide and then confirm the exact requirement on GOV.UK.

How the result is given

You are told whether you passed or failed on the day. If you pass, the current service provides a unique reference number used in a citizenship or settlement application. Keep the information safely and follow the application instructions relevant to you.

This website cannot access, record or verify an official result. It stores only your independent practice activity in your own browser.

How our mock reflects the format

Our full mock uses the question count, time limit and threshold stored in one versioned configuration file. If official information changes, the format can be updated without rewriting quiz logic.

The similarity ends there: our questions are independently written and our balanced selection across editorial categories is not a claim about the official exam’s internal distribution.

Accessibility and special requests

GOV.UK says you can make special requests when booking if you have a disability and need equipment or help accessing the centre. Use the official booking service to provide the relevant information. This page gives general information and cannot assess an individual request or exemption.
