Use only the official booking route
Start from the Life in the UK Test page on GOV.UK. It identifies the authorised government booking service and links you to it. Be cautious with adverts or third-party websites that charge extra or appear similar to the official service.
As checked on 19 June 2026, GOV.UK says the test costs £50 and must be booked online at least three days in advance. Both details can change, so confirm them before payment.
Information needed to book
The current guidance says you need:
- an email address;
- a debit or credit card;
- an accepted form of identification.
The name entered in the booking must exactly match the name on the identification used to book. If you have an eVisa, current guidance explains how to use a share code. Other accepted documents and special cases are described on GOV.UK.
Choose the test centre carefully
You select a centre during booking. Check the address, travel time and accessibility arrangements before confirming. If you require extra equipment or help because of a disability, add the relevant request through the official process.
Before paying
Read the booking summary and terms carefully. Check:
- your name matches the identification;
- the identification will still meet the current rules on the test date;
- the selected centre and date are correct;
- you understand the cancellation and change terms;
- the page is part of the service linked from GOV.UK.
We do not take bookings, payments or personal details. Do not email passport, immigration or payment information to this website.
After booking
Keep the confirmation and note which identification you used. Plan to take that same original identification to the test centre. Review the official instructions again shortly before the appointment in case procedures have changed.
This guide is general information, not legal or immigration advice. If you are unsure whether you must take the test or qualify for an exemption, consult the official application guidance or an appropriately regulated adviser.
